about

Songs from Before is a dynamic 33:33 minute album best listened to on headphones. It is a ‘solo’ album as everything was played, sounded out, recorded and produced by me. The sole exception is the words, which were written down over 2000 years ago by certain prophets. If an alien came down to Earth today, read Scripture and made some music out of it, it might be called Biblical experimental avant-garde. This independent album released on American Independence Day features as its cover an 48”x36” oil painting I did 11 years before titled Continuum II.

Made with: vocals, drum set, bass guitar, Korg Minilogue synth, Rhodes Mark I 73, piano, harmonium, glockenspiel, violin, banjo, electronic tanpura, tabla, gong, taal, prayer bowls, rattles, native flute, and recordings of a vacuum cleaner, rabbits chewing, a cat, a peacock, sheep and goats, wind, running water, ocean and footsteps on the beach. Recorded with a Tascam DR-05 digital recorder and produced through Audacity, between May 15th and June 20th, 2019.

Track Name: Isaiah 40:12…(Scrolling the Dead Sea)
"...the waters of the sea....marked out the heavens with his compass and measured out the dust of the earth in a measuring bowl? weighed the mountains in scales and the hills in a balance?...All the nations are as nothing to him, and he considers them as nothingness and chaos"
Track Name: David's Song
"My cry entered His ears...The Most High sent forth His voice...The foundation of heaven shook--Rocked by His indignation...He rescued me from my enemy so strong, From the foes too mighty for me...From His mouth came devouring fire...He bent the sky and came down...He mounted a cherub and flew; He was seen on the wings of the wind...In the brilliance before Him...He let loose bolts, and scattered them...The bed of the sea was exposed, The foundations of the world were laid bare. By the mighty roaring of the Lord, At the blast of the breath of His nostrils."
Track Name: A Valley of Dry Bones (Ezekiel 37)
"....and I was carried away by the Spirit...to a valley filled with bones...They were scattered everywhere across the ground and...completely dried out. Then he asked me, "Son of man, can these bones become living people again?...So I spoke this message, just as he told me. Suddenly as I spoke, there was a rattling noise all across the valley. The bones of each body came together and attached themselves...Son of man....speak....speak a prophetic message and say...So I spoke the message....and breath came in to their bodies. They all came to life and stood up on their feet"
Track Name: Joel's Locust Plague
"What clutter has left, the locust has devoured; What the locust has left, the grub has devoured; And what the grub has left...the locust has devoured; Wake up...For a nation has invaded my land....With teeth like the teeth of a lion, With fangs of a lion's breed. They have laid my vines waste"
Track Name: Warnings (Isaiah 59)
"Listen...No one cares about being fair and honest. The people's lawsuits are based on lies. They conceive evil deeds and then give birth to sin. They hatch deadly snakes and weave spiders' webs. Whoever eats their eggs will die; whoever cracks them will hatch a viper. Their webs can't be made into clothing, and nothing they do is productive. All their activity is filled with sin, and violence is their trademark. Their feet run to do evil, and they rush to commit murder. They think only about sinning. Misery and destruction always follow them. They don't know where to find peace or what it means to be just and good. They have mapped out crooked roads, and no one who follows them knows a moment's peace. So there is no justice among us, and we know nothing about right living. We look for light but find only darkness. We look for bright skies but walk in gloom. We grope like the blind along a wall, feeling our way like people without eyes. Even at the brightest noontime, we stumble as though it were dark. Among the living, we are like the dead. We growl like hungry bears; we moan like mournful doves. We look for justice, but it never comes. We look for rescue, but it is far away from us. For our sins are piled up before God and testify against us. Yes, we know what sinners are. We know we have rebelled and have denied the LORD. We have turned our backs on our God. We know how unfair and oppressive we have been, carefully planning our deceitful lies. Our courts oppose the righteous, and justice is nowhere to be found. Truth stumbles in the streets, and honesty has been outlawed. Yes, truth is gone, and anyone who renounces evil is attacked."
Track Name: A New Heaven and New Earth
"The wolf will live with the lamb, and the leopard will lie down with the kid, and the calf and the young lion will graze together, and a little child will herd them. The cow and the bear will graze together, and their young will lie down, and the lion will eat straw, like the ox. A baby will play on the viper's hole, and the toddler will put his hand on the dens of adders. They will not hurt or destroy on my holy mountain. For the earth will be full of the knowledge of the LORD, as the waters cover the sea."
Track Name: Jeremiah's Jazz from Jah
"The mind of the king, And the mind of the nobles shall fail....Disaster overtakes disaster, For all the land has been ravaged....Hear this, O foolish people, Devoid of intelligence, That have eyes but can't see, That have ears but can't hear...Call to Me, and I will answer you, And I will tell you wondrous things, Secrets you have not known."
Track Name: Outro (Enoch)
"Purify the earth from all oppression, from all injustice, from all crime, from all impiety, and from all the pollution which is committed upon it. Exterminate them from the earth...The earth shall be cleansed from all corruption, from every crime, from all punishment, and from all suffering...In those days I will open up the treasures of blessing which are in heaven, that I may cause them to descend upon the earth, and upon all the works and labour of man."
